Three Lawrence men arrested in alleged Tuesday evening sexual assault

Three Lawrence men were arrested Wednesday in connection with an alleged sexual assault Tuesday night.

Two of the men, a 31-year-old and a 36-year-old, were arrested on a charge of rape, while the third man, 26, was arrested on a charge of aggravated sexual battery.

Lawrence Police Sgt. Trent McKinley said officers responded to an apartment in south-central Lawrence shortly before midnight regarding an alleged sexual assault earlier in the evening.

The victim told officers she was with several other people at the apartment, and the group was consuming alcohol, McKinley said. At some point, the three men allegedly had nonconsensual sexual contact with the woman.

The three men were interviewed at the Lawrence Police Department’s Investigations and Training Center, 4820 Bob Billings Parkway. Following the interviews, all three were arrested. The first suspect was booked into the jail about 6 a.m., while the other two were booked later in the morning.

According to a public records search, none of the three men is a registered sex offender, and none has any previous felony convictions in Douglas County.

They have not been charged in Douglas County District Court, and no bond has been set in any of the cases.

The Journal-World generally does not name sex crime suspects unless they’re convicted.
