Editorial: Season of giving

A listing in Tuesday’s Journal-World is just a reminder that it’s not too late to volunteer or donate to various efforts that will make the holidays a little brighter for local residents in need.

Hundreds of families remain to be adopted through the Holiday Bureau operated by Ballard Community Services, Penn House, ECKAN and the Salvation Army. KVC Behavioral Health and The Villages are collecting gifts for youngsters who are homeless or in foster care. Douglas County Toys for Tots still is taking toy donations and seeking volunteers for its Christmas Toy Show. A full listing of volunteer and contribution needs, along with contact information, is available in Tuesday’s J-W and on LJWorld.com.

Many agencies are reporting that more than the usual number of individuals and families are seeking assistance this year. Contributing some time or gifts to help those less fortunate is a great way to celebrate the true spirit of the Christmas season. Please give what you can.
