From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Dec. 4, 1972:

• The Christmas lights on the Kansas University campus were expected to be turned on late this afternoon. Greenery and lights had been installed on Strong Hall, Hoch Auditorium, Danforth Chapel, Watkins Memorial Hospital, and the chancellor’s residence, and a Christmas tree was expected to be placed in the rotunda of Strong Hall on December 11. The decorations were to remain in place throughout the Christmas season.
• Two bids received for purchase of the old city library at Ninth and Vermont had been “considerably under the appraised value,” said City Manager Buford Watson today. B. A. Green Construction Co., Lawrence, had bid $61,106 for the building and the four lots, and Dr. Ray A. Clark Sr. had bid $26,077 for the old library and the two lots on which it was located. “The land across the street where the savings and loan is was sold several years ago by the Presbyterian Church for a sum considerably larger than the bids, and it seems to be that we should consider advertising it on a larger basis,” Watson said.
