40 years ago: Library board approves Sunday hours

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Dec. 1, 1972:

  • Beginning January 7, authorities at the new Lawrence Public Library were planning to add Sunday hours to the schedule. The Library Board of Directors at its November meeting had decided that adding Sunday hours would extend service to a larger part of the community. The new schedule would bring the total weekly hours of service to 69 hours.
  • A school disciplinary hearing had been set for the two girls suspected of having started a fire in a rest room at South Junior High School earlier in the week. No action regarding the two was to be taken in the Douglas County Juvenile Court until school personnel announced their decision.
