Woman reports attempted strong-armed robbery Sunday evening

A woman alleged she was the victim of an attempted strong-armed robbery about 9:50 p.m. Sunday while walking along a nature trail in Naismith Park, said Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence police spokesman.

The woman told police she was on a path close to 24th Street when a man approached her from behind and knocked her down. McKinley said the suspect, who was not wearing any shoes and didn’t speak English, began searching the victim’s pockets for valuables before he fled.

“Due to darkness, a detailed description of the suspect was unavailable,” McKinley said.

The victim had minor injuries after she was pushed down on the concrete. Police were still trying to locate the suspect, McKinley said Monday.
