Deadline for banned books art submissions extended

The Lawrence Public Library has extended the deadline for its call for artists to help mark Banned Books Week until Friday.

The library is teaming with the Lawrence Arts Center to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Banned Books Week, scheduled to be celebrated nationally Sept. 30 through Oct. 6.

The library is looking for artists to create small-scale works of art on paper inspired by a banned or challenged book or author. Seven entries will be chosen and printed as trading cards, with the artwork on the front and a list of statistics about the book or author on the back.

The library will exhibit all submissions, and the Arts Center will exhibit the seven winning artworks. One trading card per day will be made available at both locations throughout the week for the public to collect.
