Railfest 2012 picks up steam

Midland Railway will bring in a steam locomotive to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of it being named a Historical Association and Tourist Destination for the state of Kansas.

“Sadie,” a 1931 coal-fired steam locomotive, will kick off Railfest 2012 at 9 a.m. Sept. 1 by leaving the Baldwin City train station on an 11-mile round-trip excursion to the former town site of Norword. The steam engine will make runs at 9 a.m., noon and 3 p.m. Sept. 1-3 for the event. Tickets to ride the train cost $20 for adults and $10 for children.

Midland Railway will also run diesel engines at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. during the event. These engines will make a 22-mile loop from Baldwin City to the Ottawa Junction. Tickets for diesel engine rides cost $16 for adults and $8 for children.
