Douglas County Commission extends burn ban for two more weeks

The Douglas County Commission has extended its burn ban for two more weeks.

The commission passed the ban on July 25 and has extended it each week thereafter. The latest extension, made at Wednesday’s commission meeting, is valid until the commission votes again on Aug. 29.

The burn ban prohibits the following in the unincorporated portions of the county:

• Building, maintaining or using any open fire or camp fire “except in permanent stoves or fireplaces.”

• Burning fields, wild lands or trash.

• Careless use or disposal of smoking materials.

Failure to comply with the ban can result in a misdemeanor criminal charge.
