Two men found after report of suspicious activity at Runza

Two men ran from a Lawrence police officer who was investigating suspicious activity Saturday night at Runza, 2700 Iowa, said Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence police spokesman.

McKinley said after 10 p.m. an officer tried to stop a vehicle in the area near 26th Street and Redbud Lane, but a driver and passenger fled on foot. The officer apprehended the passenger, a 40-year-old Lawrence man, and found he was carrying a concealed knife, McKinley said. Police did not locate the driver, but officers found “a sizeable amount of methamphetamine and a small amount of marijuana” in the vehicle along with scales and bags.

The passenger was booked into jail on suspicion of carrying the concealed knife and drug possession, but according to jail records he was released Monday afternoon after prosecutors did not file formal charges. They could file them later.

The Journal-World generally does not identify suspects unless they are formally charged.
