A new season of “Whale Wars” (8 p.m., Animal Planet) moves the action to a different ocean battleground. Previous seasons followed the efforts of the Sea Shepherd and its crew to prevent Japanese fleets from killing and harvesting whales.

This season takes us across the planet to the Faroe Islands, a remote chain located between Iceland and Scotland. The self-governing Danish territory has about 50,000 residents. Proud descendants of Vikings, with fishing traditions dating back thousands of years, they have long depended on whale meat for food and have conducted annual whale kills for too many generations to enumerate. They call their grim annual rite “The Grind.”

Stopping these events will pit the Sea Shepherd against tradition, angry and fiercely independent native islanders, and more than 20 potential killing spots spread across 18 islands.

• “Ghost Adventures” (8 p.m., Travel) ends its season with a special appearance by Motley Crue performer Vince Neil. He’s part of a team of show-biz regulars who will help hosts Zak, Nick and Aaron investigate tales of haunting at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas. Bruce Westcott, who worked as Frank Sinatra’s pianist, will give the guys a tour of the fabled Riviera.

No stranger to the reality genre, Vince Neil has appeared as himself on “Skating With the Stars,” ”Celebrity Ghost Stories,” “Gene Simmons Family Jewels,” ”20 Greatest Celebreality Moments,” “Queer Eye” and “The Weakest Link.”

• The premium movie channel Epix offers “With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story” (7 p.m.), a genial biography of the Marvel comic creator. The film includes vintage clips of Lee with the animators who helped him create Spider-Man, Captain America, Hulk, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Iron Man and 200 other characters.

• The appearance of Rob Lowe (“Parks and Recreation”) on “Who Do You Think You Are?” (7 p.m., NBC) takes him to the Library of Congress to discover a distant ancestor’s role in the American Revolution and a direct connection to George Washington.
