‘Voice’ has reason to crow

NBC has some reasons to celebrate. Although its audience has been sliding, “The Voice” (7 p.m.) has redefined Monday nights, beating CBS’ four sitcoms — particularly in the coveted 18-49 audience. Any night that NBC dominates that doesn’t involve the NFL is a surprise for the beleaguered Peacock network. Tonight, look for live quarterfinal competition on “The Voice.”

Not content with three hours a week of “Dancing With the Stars” (7 p.m.), ABC will promote the show with a “Dancing”-themed episode of “20/20” (9 p.m.). “20/20” was long affiliated with something called ABC’s “news” division.

The website tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com has just completed its third annual “Don’t Save Their Show” poll. In contrast to countless letter-writing campaigns to “Save Our Show,” this spoof survey invites viewers to choose a show they really want to see canceled. Of the more than 100,000 votes cast, the “winning” show was “Gossip Girl” on the CW. To be fair, “Girl” topped the list with less than 5 1/2 percent of the vote.

Even this completely meaningless poll indicates one of the central problems for network television. With so many shows to watch, it’s difficult for one program to really stand out, the good or the bad. For the record, the second most hated show was NBC’s “Are You There, Chelsea?” with 3 1/4 percent, followed closely by CBS’ “Rob.”

• Please return your seats to an upright position. “World’s Scariest Plane Landings” (9 p.m., Discovery) allows viewers to experience white-knuckle, near-death terror from the safety of their own recliners. Look for footage of panicked passengers and calm crew members. Interviews include Captain Chesley Sullenberger, who was forced to make an abrupt emergency landing in the freezing waters of the Hudson River in January 2009.
