From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for April 22, 1972:

• High school students in Douglas County were being encouraged to enter the 11th annual Art in the Park show on May 7 in South Park. This was the first year that high school students were allowed to exhibit with the other artists. The entry fee was $3, or $1 for artists over 65 years of age.
• Don Schaake, director of Lawrence’s Neighborhood Development Program, was interested in a new plan to promote remodeling of storefronts in the downtown area this summer.
