40 years ago: Haskell students search for summer work

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for April 18, 1972:

  • Two Haskell Indian Junior College students, who comprised the staff of the Haskell Student Employment Center, had been trudging through Lawrence asking about available jobs for about 150 Haskell students who were expected to be in Lawrence over the summer. Donald LaFrance and Timothy Oliver had collected files on interested students and were acting as a liaison in the job-search process. In the next year, Oliver said, the job-search process would be eased by the inauguration of a work-study program, where students would work up to 14 hours a week for $2 an hour.
  • It had been an unlucky Friday for several Lawrence motorists. Eight persons had suffered injuries in 15 separate collisions in the area, including one involving a boy who ran in the path of a motorcycle in a private parking lot.
