Prep Muhammad taps UCLA

Shabazz Muhammad, the No. 1-ranked basketball player in the Class of 2012, announced plans to attend UCLA on ESPNU’s national signing day special Wednesday.

Muhammad, a 6-foot-6 senior from Las Vegas’ Bishop Gorman High who attended the Kansas-Missouri game as part of an official recruiting visit on Feb. 25, chose UCLA over Kentucky and Duke.

“If I could pick all three, I would,” Muhammad said. “It came down to how comfortable I was with the coach (Ben Howland). It’s what it came down to.”

Of KU being in his final five, Muhammad said: “Kansas … it’s coach (Bill) Self and how great he is as a coach and teacher of the game.”

Nerlens Noel, a 6-10 senior from Tilton (N.H) School, chose Kentucky over Syracuse and Georgetown. He’s Rivals.com’s No. 2-rated player nationally.

This, that: Andrew White, a 6-6 senior guard/forward from Miller School in Charlottesville, Va., will sign his letter-of-intent with KU on Monday at his high school. … Arizona freshman point guard Josiah Turner has announced plans to transfer. He did not reveal his new list of schools. Turner, 6-3 from Sacramento Calif., averaged 6.8 points a game in a reserve role last season. He chose U of A over Kansas and others in recruiting.
