UConn transfer considering KU

Kansas University is one of many schools recruiting former UConn power forward Alex Oriakhi, Zagsblog.com reports.

The 6-foot-9, 240-pound junior from Lowell, Mass., will visit Kentucky, North Carolina, Duke and Missouri, Oriakhi’s dad, Alex, Sr., told the Hearst Media Group. Zagsblog says KU, Xavier, Washington, Ohio State, Virginia and Iowa State are also involved.

Oriakhi is free to play at any school immediately for his senior year because UConn has been banned by the NCAA from all postseason competition next season.

Oriakhi cannot transfer within the Big East, per league rules, and would need to obtain a waiver to play in the SEC for Kentucky, but reportedly could do so if he pursues a course of study that UConn does not offer.

Oriakhi averaged 6.7 points and 4.8 rebounds in 21.5 minutes for UConn last season.
