Topeka man, 23, charged with stealing two cars in Lawrence

Douglas County prosecutors have filed charges against a 23-year-old Topeka man accused of stealing two vehicles in Lawrence late last year.

According to jail records, Alonzo Lavelle Timley was brought to Douglas County on Wednesday to face charges in two cases.

Timley had been in custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections since he was arrested in early December on a parole violation in a 2010 Shawnee County case in which he was convicted of eluding police.

According to court records, Douglas County prosecutors have charged Timley with possession of stolen property in connection with a Nov. 24 theft in the 3400 block of Harvard Road of a 2000 light blue Nissan Maxima and $100 cash from a 21-year-old Lawrence woman.

He was also charged in connection with an incident that occurred early on Dec. 1 when a 21-year-old Lawrence man alleged a man came into a residence in the 700 block of Alabama Street with a handgun and stole a plasma TV and a 1999 Cadillac DeVille from the driveway. Lawrence police briefly pursued the suspect that morning near Monterey Way and Bob Billings Parkway before he crashed the DeVille and ran away.

Timley is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police and criminal possession of a firearm in that case.

According to the Kansas Department of Corrections, Timley was arrested on a Shawnee County warrant Dec. 13 and served four months in prison for his parole violation.
