Police respond to post-game disturbances

Police are responding to disturbances around town after Kansas University’s 59-67 loss to the University of Kentucky.

12:36 a.m.: Several fights have been reported to Douglas County emergency dispatchers, including one that involved a subject threatening to “shoot the block up” near the 1100 block of Mississippi Street. Police responded to the incident, and no other information is available at the time.

A wicker loveseat was set on fire around 12:25 a.m. in the road near 13th and Tennessee. Officers have responded and removed the chair from the road.

Dispatchers have received several reports of traffic signs being removed in the Oread neighborhood. According to dispatchers, someone ripped the wires out of the stoplight at the intersection of 14th and Kentucky Street and also removed the stop signs, leading to an uncontrolled intersection.

Medical personnel responded to two subjects who were tasered on the 900 block of New Hampshire Street.

12:49 a.m.:: A 41-year-old Lawrence woman was arrested for Battery of a Law Enforcement Officer near the 800 block of New Hampshire Street at around 11:15 p.m. She is currently being held at the Douglas County Jail.

1:00 a.m.:: A dispatcher has just informed an officer that there is still a crowd downtown.

1:07 a.m.:: Although there is plenty of activity on the Douglas County emergency scanner, Kentucky has once again stole the spotlight”#LexingtonPoliceScanner is currently trending on Twitter.

2:00 a.m.: The downtown bars have closed, and there is discussion of officers moving to the 1000 block of Massachusetts Street.

In the past hour, officers have responded to a few more fights, noise complaints and other disturbances.
