FSHS 4th, LHS 7th at league tennis

? Free State’s Alexis Czapinski placed third at No. 1 singles, and the FSHS team of Caitly Tilden and Guin Toalson placed third at No. 1 doubles to help the Firebirds to a fourth-place finish at the Sunflower League tennis tournament on Tuesday at Shawnee Mission East.

Lawrence High placed seventh. Taylor Eubanks and Abby Gillam led the Lions with a third-place finish at No. 1 doubles.

Host Shawnee Mission East won the team title.

“I was very pleased with the way we played,” LHS coach Chris Marshall said. “Most of us finished above where we were seeded, which is always a good sign.”

Marshall praised his No. 1 doubles team of Taylor Eubanks and Abby Gillam, and said he was happy with the way they controlled the tempo.

Thursday, FSHS and LHS will meet in the city showdown at Free State.
