Great start

Helping restock a local food bank is just one way KU students give back to the Lawrence community.

What a great way to kick off homecoming activities at Kansas University.

On Sunday, KU students parked a crimson and blue bus at the 23rd Street Dillons store and collected nearly four tons of food to be donated to a local food bank.

This year’s “Stuff the Bus” event collected 7,861 pounds of food for Just Food. That topped last year’s total of 7,300 pounds.

A variety of fun events are scheduled throughout the coming week on the KU campus, leading up to the KU-Texas Tech football game next Saturday. Amid the many events scheduled for homecoming week, it’s great to see KU students once again stepping up to support a charitable effort in Lawrence.

It’s another reminder of the important role KU, its employees and its students play in the community.
