25 years ago: Five-generation KU family honored

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Sept. 24, 1986:

  • The Sloo family of Salina had been honored before the beginning of the recent KU-Utah State football game as the honorary Parents Day family. “Our family didn’t all plan to come to KU, it just worked out that way,” said Dr. Milo Sloo, whose family boasted five straight generations of Jayhawks.
  • The 126 Lawrence High School seniors who had taken the SAT exam this year scored an average combined score of 1,051 — 542 on the math section and 509 verbal. Although the LHS combined score was well above the national average of 906 (475 math, 431 verbal), it was a drop of 94 points from the previous year.
