Fugitive in 2009 alleged KU robbery returned to Douglas County Jail

Authorities Friday returned a 21-year-old Topeka man to Douglas County Jail who was wanted in connection with a 2009 robbery on the Kansas University campus.

According to Douglas County Jail records, Terrance Anthony Dean was booked into jail on $35,000 bond and brought to Lawrence from the Shawnee County Correctional Facility. Douglas County prosecutors in 2009 charged Dean with aggravated robbery and conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery accusing him of participating in an April 29, 2009, robbery of a male KU student at gunpoint outside McCollum Hall.

According to court records, Dean had failed to show up for court in March, and a judge issued a bench warrant for his arrest. A co-defendant in the case, Mikael Dantae Karlyle, 21, of Belton, Mo., was also brought to Douglas County on Tuesday from jail in Topeka after authorities had been looking for him.

Prosecutors accuse the two men of participating in a scheme to use a handgun to steal marijuana from a man on campus.
