From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Sept. 22, 1986:

  • A remodeled building at the corner of 15th and Iowa was the new home of two Lutheran congregations who had merged into one. The campus ministry of University Lutheran Church had combined with Immanuel Lutheran Church, formerly at 17th and Vermont, to form Immanuel Lutheran Church and University Student Center.
  • Barbara Smith, community facilitator at Women's Transitional Care Services in Lawrence, had been named the new director of the Lawrence United Fund. She was to replace Jo Bryant, UF director since 1981. Bryant was leaving to take a job as executive director of Kansas Action for Children in Topeka.
