Kentucky’s John Calipari to visit Wichita recruit Perry Ellis

Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari will conduct an in-home recruiting visit with Wichita Heights blue-chip senior forward Perry Ellis this afternoon in Wichita.

Calipari follows coaches from Kansas University, Kansas State and Wichita State, who have met with Rivals.com’s No. 24-rated player in the past week.

“We have enjoyed the in-home visit part of the process. We’ve had three in-home visits now completed with just one left on Friday,” Ellis’ mom, Fonda, said Thursday. “We are thankful to go on to the next step as our family along with Perry’s coaches all sit down together after Friday and discuss all the great options Perry has and re-evaluate. We will let Perry make the decision about taking official visits or not.”

Ellis, who has a perfect 4.0 grade-point average, is expected to sign a national letter-of-intent in November.

Ibeh update: Price Ibeh, a 6-10, 230-pound senior center from Naaman Forest High in Garland, Texas, likely will make an official recruiting visit to KU in October, Ibeh’s high school coach, Jeff Clarkson, told Rivals.com.

The No. 54-ranked Ibeh has a final four of KU, Texas, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt.

“I think Texas might be the leader,” Clarkson said. “I think they might have a tiny edge, but I don’t think it’s necessarily a big edge.”

Goodwin update: Archie Goodwin, a 6-4 senior guard from Sylvan Hills High in Little Rock, Ark., who had an in-home visit with KU on Sunday, will attend the Sept. 24 Legends of the Phog alumni game in Allen Fieldhouse. Rivals.com’s No. 12-rated player will visit UConn (Sept. 30), Arkansas (Oct. 8), Kentucky (Oct. 14) and Memphis (Oct. 21).

“Coach (Bill) Self knows that I’m a hard worker. Coach Self wants me to continue to do what I’m doing, and hopefully I can be in a Jayhawk uniform,” Goodwin told jayhawkslant.com.

It’s been rumored that Arkansas and Kentucky are his leaders.

“All five schools have a chance right now,” Goodwin said.

Selby erupts for 41: Former KU guard Josh Selby scored 41 points in his first game at the Impact Competitive Basketball League in Las Vegas. Selby, a second-round draft pick of the Memphis Grizzlies, will be playing in the Legends of the Phog game.
