Lawrence residents are invited to grab a net and nab a butterfly as the Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department’s annual butterfly tagging event, The Magnificent Butterfly. It takes place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St.

There will be a short program held every hour to teach participants about butterfly tagging and show them butterfly larvae.

Nets will be provided for free, though a $1 fee will be charged for anyone who successfully catches and tags a butterfly. Participants who tag a butterfly will receive a certificate with the tag number, which can be used to track the butterfly’s progress if it is recaptured at the end of its migration.

All ages are invited to attend, though children under 14 must have an adult register with them. For more information, contact Prairie Park Nature Center at 832-7980.
