Two Wichita men pleaded guilty Tuesday afternoon in connection with a Dec. 2 incident at a Lawrence apartment in which three female Kansas University students were robbed at gunpoint.

Dandre Williams pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated robbery, and Dandre Tomlin pleaded guilty to three counts of attempted aggravated robbery. Williams admitted to having a firearm during the robbery, and Tomlin said he took a television, laptop and iPod and ran out of the apartment in the 1100 block of Louisiana Street. Prosecutors accuse the men of acting at the direction of Michael Hammond, 20, who wanted to rob someone in the apartment building believed to be a drug dealer but the men burst into the wrong apartment.

During a court appearance Tuesday, Williams — without using Hammond’s name — accused Hammond of mixing up the directions.

Williams said he had the gun but maintained he held it because he worried if his co-defendants had it someone could get hurt. However, Assistant District Attorney Deborah Moody argued that the victims alleged they were forced to the floor and that one woman alleged at one point the gun was stuck to her head.

Due to Williams’ criminal history as a juvenile, he faces several years in prison, and as part of the plea agreement prosecutors will ask District Judge Paula Martin to trim the sentence to nearly 11 years in prison.

As part of Tomlin’s plea agreement, prosecutors will ask Martin to sentence him to three years in prison.

The night after the robbery, Hammond and three other co-defendants were arrested for trying to rob the alleged drug dealer’s apartment. Hammond pleaded no contest to two counts of conspiracy to commit burglary.

Prosecutors allege a third co-defendant — Jerome DeShaun Tucker, 21, also of Wichita — took part in the Dec. 2 robbery. Tucker has a trial scheduled for October, and both Williams and Tomlin have agreed to testify in the case if prosecutors ask them to.
