Area High School Roundup: Tongie ends skid, 34-6

? Two days after its head coach resigned amid controversy surrounding a confrontation with a player, Tonganoxie High’s football team ended a tumultuous week and an eight-game losing streak Friday with a 34-6 victory at Bishop Ward.

Chieftains Cole Holloway, Joe Wolf, Shane Levy, Derek Lingo and Garret Elston rushed for touchdowns as THS picked up its first victory since last season’s opener against Ward.

Interim Tonganoxie head coach Matt Bond saw his team score 34 unanswered points in his debut after replacing 11-year coach Mark Elston.

Holloway had nine carries for 102 yards, and Lingo had 11 carries for 93 yards.

The Chieftains (1-0) will host K.C. Piper on Friday.

Eudora — Tailback Chris Pyle gained 139 yards off 17 carries and scored a touchdown in Eudora’s season-opening victory over Louisburg.

Pyle scored on an 80-yard run. Also, Andrew Ballock scored on a 14-yard pass from Derek Webb. Ballock had two interceptions.

Eudora will travel to St. James Academy Friday.

Baldwin City — Paola opened up a four-touchdown lead before the Bulldogs scored.

Baldwin’s only TD came on a four-yard run by Jake Mindez.

Luke Kellum had two TDs for the Kaws, who will play Sabetha on Friday at P-L’s field.
