40 years ago: Lawrence drive-in theater offers scary Halloween fare

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 31, 1971:

On this night of spooks and goblins, the Sunset Drive-In was offering the “Great Pumpkin Days Marathon,” billed as “The Sincerest Marathon In Town.” The fun was to begin at 7:30 p.m. with “Werewolves on Wheels,” followed by “Simon — King of the Witches” (“The Evil Spirit Must Choose Evil! The Black Mass … The Spells … The Incantations … The Curses … The Ceremonial Sex …”). Boris Karloff starred in “Black Sabbath,” showing at 10:40 p.m. Movie-goers could round out the night with “Destroy All Monsters,” starting at half past midnight. Half-price admission was offered to anyone in costume.
