Judges leaves bond at $100,000 for robbery suspect

A judge Monday kept bond for a Lawrence robbery suspect at $100,000 after the man’s first appearance in court Monday afternoon. Charles Erwin Reed, 20, was brought to the Douglas County Jail Friday in connection with a July carjacking in west Lawrence.

Douglas County prosecutors have filed charges of aggravated battery, aggravated robbery and criminal possession of a firearm against Reed who is accused of conspiring with two other co-defendants, Denodria L. Smith, 26, of Lawrence, and Travis Brownlee, 33, to try to lure a 28-year-old Lawrence man on July 23 to the 2500 block of Winterbrook Drive so they could rob him. Lawrence police said the man alleged he was held at gunpoint, struck in the head and that his car was stolen.

Police in August arrested Smith in the Dallas area, and as of Monday Brownlee was not yet in custody in Douglas County. Reed is next scheduled to appear in court today.
