From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 24, 1971:

A new high-resolution electron microscope recently had been installed in the cell biology lab of Snow Hall at Kansas University. According to Paul R. Burton, professor of physiology and cell biology, the two-ton microscope stood at over seven feet tall and was able to magnify structures up to 550,000 times their original size. However, Burton explained, the most important feature of the new microscope was not the magnification but the “resolving power,” or the instrument’s ability to “see” detail. Four doctoral students would be using the new tool under Burton’s direction, while the older microscope was to be used for training purposes and for use by other staff and graduate students.
