Free State, Lawrence High runners advance to state cross country meet

? The Free State girls cross country team placed third and qualified for state Saturday at the Shawnee Mission West regional at Shawnee Mission Park.

FSHS’s Kain Anderson (second) and Kamp Wiebe (10th) and Lawrence High’s Gavin Fischer (seventh), Zach Andregg (16th), Grace Morgan (fourth) and Michala Ruder (16th) qualified individually.

Anderson’s 5K time of 15:50 set a Free State school record. Lynn Robinson led the Firebird girls with a second-place finish and a 4K time of 15:29.

Shawnee Mission West’s girls and boys teams both took first place at the regional.

LHS and FSHS runners will compete at the 6A state cross country meet next Saturday at Rim Rock Farm. Class 6A girls will begin at 10 a.m. and 6A boys will start at 11:30 a.m.
