Boy Scout Troop 59, chartered to First Presbyterian Church, attended summer camp at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation July 14-23 in Osceola, Mo. The troop had 43 boys and 23 adult leaders attend. The boys earned 151 merit badges.

Several Scouts completed rank advancements: Bailey Greer, Fergus Inbody, Arlo March, Hunter Mooney, Billy Orr, Elijah Rupprecht, Keifer Smith and Joe Winebrenner, tenderfoot; Patrick Oblon, second class; Andrew Hahn, first class; and Steele Jacobs, star scout.

Zach Denny, Kieran Inbody, Steele Jacobs, K.C. McLaughlin and Kyle Vogelsang were recognized as foxman by the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Brandon Botkin, George Depenbusch, Jacob DiVilbiss, Ty Hartman, Justin Lewis, Jack Powell, Tanner Smith, Taylor Smith, Kiefer Stellwagon and Evan Williams were inducted into the tribe with the first rank of brave. Sam Dowell, Nathan Kappelman, Luke Oberrieder and Levi Sedlock became warriors. Matthew Day, Liam Inbody, Scott Ragan and Reid Williams were elevated to firebuilders. Connor Caldwell and James Windholz advanced to runner. Carrick Finnegan was also inducted into the tribe as an honorary warrior. Matthew Day, Liam Inbody, Scott Ragan and Reid Williams also received their first coveted coup.

Camp activities also included a five-mile hike to Scott’s General Store in Iconium, opening and closing campfires with Scouts performing skits, eight outpost adventures and three ceremonies for the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, the honor camping society at Camp Bartle.

Camp Scoutmasters were David and Jeanne Williams and assistant camp Scoutmasters were Eric Caldwell, Doug Winebrenner and Jordan Wright. Senior patrol leader was Evan Williams. Quartermasters were Connor Coldwell, Carrick Finnegan, Scott Ragan and James Windholz. Part-time leaders were Schuyler Bailey, Steve Dowell, Kirk Evans, Mark Gleeson, Mark Inbody, Diane Lewis, Bo March, Craig McLaughlin, Mike Oberrieder, Patrick Smith, Diane Solcher, Mark Stogsdill and Mark Workman.

Troop 59 was honored to have their advancement chairman Frank Wright, 2011 presiding chieftain Red Leg Eagle, in camp to assist. He also presided over the Mic-O-Say induction ceremonies for the troop’s newest foxman, braves, warriors and paint advancements.

Lawrence Boy Scout Troop 52, chartered by the Lawrence First United Methodist Church, participated in the “Scout Riley” Program Sept. 23-25. The fun-filled weekend at Fort Riley included two nights of camping at Moon Lake, a tour of the Kansas National Guard MATES Facility by a 1st lieutenant, viewing a static display of the M1A1 Abrams Tank, Bradley Fighting Vehicle, as well as the Blackhawk, Apache and Scout helicopters. The Scouts also had the opportunity to fire three different machine guns using blank ammunition. Participating Scouts were Thomas Peterson, Gavin Spence, Robert Newman, John Peterson, Ryan Glogau, Joe Cary, John McArthur, Jacob Lashley, John Milburn, Finn Nesbitt-Daly, Jamie Messer, Robert Parker, John Anderson, Max Briggs and Andrew Bireta. Participating adults were Jace Newman, Kent Peterson, Dan Cary, Kevin Lashley, Ivy Briggs, Michael Briggs, Richard Messer and Mark Daly.

Since joining Troop 65 in 2004, Bollig has served as patrol leader, scribe, librarian and chaplain’s aide. Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann gave him the Ad Altare Dei religious emblem award on May 22, 2010, at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Kansas City, Kan.

Bollig earned 26 merit badges, hiked 36 miles and amassed 41 service hours. He was inducted into the Tribe of Mic-O-Say in July 2010 at Camp Geiger, St. Joseph, Mo. He attended summer camp at Theodore Naish Scout Reservation five times and went on numerous district and troop campouts, including a hike of Shiloh Battlefield in Tennessee.

For his Eagle project, Bollig led Scouts and Scout leaders in clearing brush and painting three structures in the Baker Wetlands, and installing 36 habitat boxes for three species.

Bollig graduated from Baldwin High School this May and is a student at DeVry University in Kansas City, Mo. He is the son of Joe and Linda Bollig, Baldwin City.
