KCK man brought to Douglas County to face carjacking charges

A Kansas City, Kan., man wanted in connection with a July carjacking in Lawrence has been brought to Douglas County to face charges in the case, according to jail records.

Charles Erwin Reed, 20, was booked into the Douglas County Jail on Friday morning on charges of aggravated battery, aggravated robbery and criminal possession of a firearm.

Lawrence police in August asked for the public’s help in finding Reed and two other co-defendants, Deondria L. Smith, 26, of Lawrence, and Travis Brownlee, 33. Police arrested Smith in August in the Dallas area.

Prosecutors have filed warrants accusing the suspects of conspiring together to lure a 28-year-old Lawrence man on July 23 to the 2500 block of Winterbrook Drive in west Lawrence and then holding him at gunpoint and stealing the man’s vehicle. The victim was also struck in the head.

Brownlee as of Friday was not in custody in Douglas County. Police have asked anyone with information in the case to call Douglas County Crime Stoppers at 785-843-TIPS (8477).
