Anti-Brownback group plans meetings across Kansas

Co-founders of Kansans United in Voice & Spirit, a group formed to oppose several policies of Gov. Sam Brownback, will tour several cities this month to mobilize citizens.

Crystal McComas, a sociologist, and Tamara Werth, a psychologist, both from Lawrence, will conduct the meetings on Oct. 29 and 30.

The organization held a rally at the Statehouse on Sept. 16 that attracted approximately 250 people. Those at the rally criticized Brownback for cuts to social services, education and de-funding the Arts Commission.

McComas and Werth plan to meet with chapters that have recently organized in Johnson County, Wyandotte County, Lawrence, Wichita, Hutchinson, Hays and Salina.

“The mobilization weekend intends to be community gatherings where citizens can learn about the impact of legislation that has been imposed and projects that are currently pending or under consideration by the governor,” the group said in a news release.
