From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 13, 1971:

• The Lawrence City Commission voted 3-2 to approve the controversial cereal malt beverage license for the Kansas University student union. Commissioners Charles Fisher and John Emick voted against the license, and Rev. Dick Taylor, Methodist minister and president of the Kansas United Dry Forces, spoke out against it, saying, “Where will it end?” Meanwhile, it was reported that beer had been served in the Oklahoma University student union for more than a year, with no disciplinary problems reported as a result.
• A cold front had moved through the area this morning, dropping the low to 47 after a near-record high of 87 the day before.
