The C-SPAN 2012 Campaign Bus is pulling into Lawrence on Friday morning, ready to welcome aboard students, library patrons and anyone else interested in information regarding the upcoming presidential election and other matters of public interest.

The bus will spend Friday morning at Lawrence High School, a visit that will include 10 students asking questions via Skype of Leo Hindery, a member of Patriotic Millionaires for Fiscal Strength. The interview is set to be shown on C-SPAN’s “American Journal.”

Friday afternoon the bus will make its way to Free State High School, to welcome classes, before being parked Saturday morning outside the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.

At the library, visitors will be able to tour the bus, explore the network’s video archive and pick up knowledge about candidates and issues that will shape what’s looking to be an intensely contested election leading up to November 2012, said Susan Brown, the library’s marketing director.

“Libraries, in general, are all about access to information,” Brown said. “This is a great way to empower voters through impartial information.”

It’ll also offer a chance for two area authors to share their stories with a wide audience. Scheduled to be interviewed on site at 10:30 a.m. for an appearance on C-SPAN’s “Book TV”:

• Katie Armitage, a Lawrence resident and author of “Survivors of Quantrill’s Raid.”

• Candice Millard, a Baker University graduate living in the Kansas City metro area, who has written two books: “Destiny of the Republic,” her new nonfiction narrative about the shooting of President James Garfield and its aftermath; and “The River of Doubt,” about Theodore Roosevelt’s exploration of the Amazon.
