Lecompton-to-Topeka relay to honor Pony Express

The Kansas Division of the National Pony Express Association will deliver mail from Lecompton to Topeka beginning at 9 a.m. Oct. 15. Guests are invited to gather at the Capitol at noon to watch a rider deliver letters from Gov. Sam Brownback and past living governors to the statehouse shortly after 12:30 p.m. There will be a short program following the delivery.

The event marks the 150th anniversary of Kansas and the 150th anniversary of the end of the Pony Express. Commemorative letters can be purchased for $5 by contacting Fred and Jean Miller, 2482 Road M, Emporia, KS 66801, or calling 620-342-6963.
