County Commission clears way for Sadies Lake Addition plans

The Douglas County Commission approved on Wednesday dedications of easements and rights of way for a planned rural retreat south of Lawrence.

The land, known as Sadies Lake Addition, covers 207 acres at 778 East 1300 Road. It was rezoned earlier this year to be used for rural tourism activities, such as hunting, conferences and lodging.

The commission also decided against several options for dealing with Baldwin Fire Station No. 11, which is in need of foundation repairs.

Commissioners ruled out repairing the station, which would cost an estimated $135,000. Commissioners also decided against building a new facility, which was roughly estimated to cost $215,000. The current building is valued at $157,000.

The county is in the early stages of seeking other solutions, which could include seeking a vacant building or some sort of building share arrangement.
