A Douglas County judge Tuesday ordered a 30-year-old rural Lawrence man to serve a 10-month sentence for leaving the scene of an injury accident east of Lawrence last year.

Anthony Lee Kennon on Tuesday afternoon pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of leaving the scene of an injury accident, and District Judge Michael Malone followed a plea agreement allowing Kennon to serve his 10 months during a prison term he’s currently serving in Missouri related to a 2006 drug case.

Kathleen Britton, an assistant district attorney, said Kennon was accused of causing a three-vehicle accident on Nov. 15, 2010, on North 1500 Road that injured one of his passengers, Kayla Johnson, of Lawrence. Johnson suffered a brain injury and spent eight days at Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.

Britton said Kennon ran away from the crash and left Johnson and two other passengers in his car without notifying sheriff’s officers of the accident. He was arrested and charged with a felony in January.

Defense attorney Sarah Swain said Kennon would have served a 10-month sentence if he were convicted of the felony charge. After the Douglas County case was filed, Missouri prosecutors revoked his probation in the 2006 drug case in which he’s accused of carrying marijuana for “delivery,” Britton said. Swain said Kennon would likely serve at least one more year in Missouri prison.
