Lawrence man released from hospital following car-bicycle accident

A 33-year-old Lawrence man who was injured Monday evening in a car-bicycle accident in west Lawrence has been treated and released from a Topeka hospital.

Bryant Bickel was no longer listed as a patient Tuesday at Stormont-Vail Regional Healthcare, a hospital spokeswoman said. Sgt. Matt Sarna, a Lawrence police spokesman, said Bickel was injured about 6:30 p.m. Monday in a collision with a car at Bob Billings Parkway and Crossgate Drive.

Sarna said Bickel was traveling west on Bob Billings Parkway and attempted to cross from the far north side of the street to make a left turn south onto Crossgate Drive, but he collided with the car, which was headed north on Crossgate Drive and turning east onto Bob Billings Parkway. Bickel was taken via ambulance to Stormont-Vail.

Police Monday said Bickel was not wearing a helmet. Sarna said Tuesday that officers had not issued any citations and were still investigating the accident.

“Please look for bicyclists on the roads. Please be aware,” Bickel said in an email to the Lawrence Journal-World on Tuesday.
