KU swimmers, divers win big

Kansas University won all individual swimming events in a 150-78 victory over Nebraska-Omaha in a swimming-and-diving dual Saturday at Robinson Natatorium.

Morgan Sharp led KU with two victories, and both KU divers qualified for the NCAA Zone ‘D’ Championships in March.

“It was a good win,” Kansas assistant coach Jen Fox said after KU improved to 4-3. “We swam some off events today, which gave some of the girls a chance to compete in different events and they did a great job.”

“It is really nice to get that qualifying score done this early, going into the Mizzou Invitational,” added diving coach Eric Elliott. “Now we can work on some dives that we are really going to need once we get to the Championships.”

Christy Cash will make her second straight appearance at zones and will be joined by Alyssa Golden.

Cash won both diving events. Golden was second in the three-meter.

Sharp won the 1,000-yard freestyle and the 100 free.

Other KU event winners: seniors Kath Liggett and Abigail Anderson, juniors Brooke Brull, Svetlana Golovchun, Rebecca Swank and Brittany Rospierski, and freshman Deanna Marks.

Kansas will travel to the Mizzou Invite on Dec. 1-4.
