A 20-year-old Lawrence man suffered a head injury in a fight early Tuesday morning in Oread neighborhood.

Sgt. Matt Sarna, a Lawrence police spokesman, said the man was found at South Park about 2 a.m. Tuesday. He said he got into a verbal altercation with another man earlier in the 1300 block of Ohio Street. The victim said that while they were on the ground fighting, he was struck in the back of the head with an unknown object, and the suspect fled. Sarna said the suspect was not identified other than being a white man.

The victim was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital by ambulance for treatment of a cut to his head. Hospital officials said Tuesday evening that he had been treated and released, but did not give a time.
