Kansas track adds to NCAA Outdoor traveling party at Preliminary

? Five additional Kansas University track and field athletes earned a trip to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships — and two more qualified for a second time — based on their performances Saturday at the NCAA Outdoor Championships West Preliminary.

On the women’s side, the 4×400-meter relay team of Kendra Bradley, Diamond Dixon, Shayla Wilson and Taylor Washington placed fifth in 3:35.01, and Jessica Marozsek placed third in the discus at 176 feet, 11 inches to earn a trip to the Outdoor, which will be held June 8-11 in Des Moines, Iowa.

For the KU men, Donny Wasinger (13th in the 1,500, 3:47.28) and Mason Finley (third in the discus at 187-11) also advanced.

Kansas will send a 12 athletes to compete in 12 events at the NCAA Outdoor: Heather Bergmann (women’s javelin), Bradley (women’s 4×400), Kyle Clemons (men’s 400 meters), Dixon (women’s 400 meters, women’s 4×400), Finley (men’s shot put, men’s discus), Andrea Geubelle (women’s long jump, women’s triple jump), Maroszek (women’s discus), Rebeka Stowe (women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase), Johann Swanepoel (men’s javelin), Washington (women’s 4×400), Wasinger (men’s 1,500 meters) and Wilson (women’s 4×400).

“Overall, I am pleased with our performance here this weekend,” Kansas coach Stanley Redwine said. “We had a couple of disappointments and a few people who really stepped up in big moments, and that is usually what happens with track and field. You cannot predict the weather or other conditions.”
