“He’s going to be fine,” Brungardt said. “He’s recovering nicely.”

The driver of the vehicle that crossed the median,16-year-old Bethany Budwell, was killed in the accident.

The Honda Civic Platt was a passenger in was driven by Corey Roelofs, 28, of Kansas City, Kan. Roelofs was also transported to St. Louis University Hospital, where he is in intensive care. However, no other information on his status was available.

Trooper Mike Link from the Illinois State Police said the accident is still under investigation, but he said alcohol or drugs are not suspected as contributing factors at this point.
