Pittsburg ? Fire officials say they have not been able to determine what caused a fire that destroyed two downtown Pittsburg businesses.

Pittsburg Fire Chief Scott Crain says Saturday’s fire started in the back of Beitzinger’s Hardware. The hardware store and Benelli’s Jewelry were destroyed.

Crain says several possible things could have started the fire, but he emphasized that it was not suspicious.

Crain says the owner of Benelli’s Jewelry was able to salvage a significant amount of his stock but Beitzinger’s was a total loss.

The Pittsburg Morning Sun says fire officials say the walls of the buildings will have to be torn down because of concerns about safety.

A damage estimate is not yet available.
