Prosecutors file battery charge in connection with early-morning altercation in 4500 block of Larissa Drive

Douglas County prosecutors Wednesday charged David Ray Freeman II, 24, of Lawrence, with misdemeanor battery after was arrested in connection with an early-morning altercation with a 19-year-old Lawrence man in western Lawrence.

Sgt. Matt Sarna, a Lawrence police spokesman, said the 19-year-old man alleged Freeman pushed him around 2:15 a.m. while he walked out of a residence in the 4500 block of Larissa Drive near Sixth Street and Folks Road. The man initially called officers because he alleged Freeman approached him and threatened him with a bat in connection with an earlier incident.

No injuries were reported. Officers initially arrested Freeman on charges of aggravated assault and battery, but according to online court records, Freeman was charged with misdemeanor battery. He is expected to appear before a judge Wednesday afternoon.
