Severe weather possible Monday afternoon, evening; increased risk for storms Tuesday

The U.S. National Weather Service has placed south-central, southeast, east-central and parts of northeast Kansas under a slight or moderate risk for severe weather Monday, May 23, 2011.

More severe storms are possible Monday afternoon and evening in northeast Kansas, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Large hail, damaging winds and a few tornadoes are possible south of Interstate 70. The NWS currently has Douglas County under a slight risk for severe weather Monday, and areas in south-central and southeast Kansas under a moderate risk.

The potential for thunderstorms continues Tuesday and Wednesday along and south of I-70. Many storms Tuesday afternoon are expected to be severe.
