Immediate needs

• Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care is seeking hospice massage volunteers, needed for one-time or regular once-weekly massage requests by hospice clients. Volunteers are required to have training in massage therapy, and must be comfortable working around patients’ physical restrictions and understanding of contraindications. This opportunity is very fulfilling volunteer work with an ability to set your schedule. For more information, contact Sarah Rooney at 785-843-3738 or sarahro@vnakansas.org.

• Midnight Farm, a program of Community Living Opportunities, is currently seeking volunteer Sidewalkers and Horse Leaders to assist during their therapeutic horseback riding classes. The 40-acre farm serves adult and children with special needs through day services, horticulture therapy, job opportunities, camps, field trips and more. There are various volunteer shifts available throughout each week, and volunteers can choose how often they volunteer each week. All volunteers must be at least 14 years old and attend a required one-hour training. Contact Bonnie Bruns at 785-979-1889 or bonniebruns@clokan.org.

• GaDuGi SafeCenter is looking for community members who would like to become volunteer advocates. GaDuGi advocates play an important role in providing 24/7 support to those affected by sexual violence in the community. A new volunteer training session will begin in September, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. If you’re interested in committing to an ongoing volunteer opportunity and learning how you can effectively advocate for survivors of sexual violence, contact Pam Lawrence at 785-843-8985, ext. 320, or directservices@sunflower.com for more details.
