Selby, Carmelo keeping in touch

? Former Kansas University basketball guard Josh Selby has been keeping in contact with fellow Baltimore native Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks as he prepares for the 2011 NBA Draft.

The New York Post reports that Selby received an encouraging text message from Anthony on Wednesday before Selby interviewed with Knicks officials at the NBA combine in the Windy City.

“He texted me to stay focused, and I have a clean slate and it’s like starting over,” Selby told The New York Post. “He’s been mentoring me.”

Selby will work out for the Knicks in early June.

“The only question they asked me was who’s the best player from Baltimore and I said Carmelo Anthony,” Selby told the Post.

Of his freshman year at KU, Selby said: “I try to forget what happened at Kansas. If I go into it, I’ll think about it too much. I’ll always look back and think, dang, I could’ve done this, could’ve done that. I’m trying to get it out of my head and look forward and forget about the past. I was 75-80 percent (because of injury). Right now I’m at 100 percent. It’s a big difference.”
