LHS baseball draws No. 6 seed at 6A state

Lawrence High’s baseball team earned the No. 6 seed and will open the Class 6A state tournament on Friday against No. 3 Shawnee Mission West at Kansas University’s Hoglund Ballpark. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.

The Lions take a 13-9 record into state, while the Vikings enter the tournament at 17-5.

The winner of the LHS-SM West matchup will face the winner of No. 2 Haysville-Campus (18-4) vs. No. 7 Blue Valley West (13-9) at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The championship game will take place at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Lawrence High, which won the Sunflower League this year, defeated Manhattan and Washburn Rural in regional play to reach the state tourney.

The Lions won the state tournament in 2009.
