LHS softball camp: Lawrence High will hold a softball camp at its new field on campus from May 31 to June 3 for students entering grades 3-12. LHS wrestling fundraiser: Lawrence High’s wrestling team will hold a golf tournament fundraiser June 3 at Alvamar Public. For information, email to

LHS wrestling camp: Lawrence High will host a summer wrestling camp June 13-15 at LHS. There will be two sessions (morning and afternoon) daily and is for grades 1-12. For more information, email

Orchards junior league: A junior golf league for boys and girls ages 10 to 14 will start at 9 a.m. on June 8 at the Orchards. Play will continue until school starts. A reasonable skill level required to join. Entry fee is $10 and green fees are $8. for nine holes. For information, call Ed at 843-7456.

Football camp: The Free State High and Lawrence High youth football camp (for grades 3-8) will run June 27-29 at FSHS. South hoops camp: South Junior High girls basketball camp for next school year’s incoming sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders will be 3-5:30 p.m. May 31-June 3. Contact Jay Deiser at 760-0654 or for information.

Swim academy: Registration is open for the Aquahawk Swim Academy swim-lesson program. The Aquahawk Swim Academy is designed to introduce new and beginner swimmers to the water, teach basic water safety and swimming skills to swim for fun or competitively. Wrestling club: Practices for the Douglas County Gold FS/GR Wrestling Club will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m. and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. at the South Gym (Eigth and Chapel Streets) in Baldwin City. All ages/skill levels are welcome. Contact Kit Harris (221-8025) or email

LHS boys basketball workouts: Lawrence High’s boys basketball workouts will be held 2:30-4 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, June 6-July 13, at LHS. KU soccer camps: The Kansas University Soccer Weekicks Camp will take place from 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. June 6-10; the day camp from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 6-10 for grades 4-12; the girls residential and girls team camp has two sessions. Henrickson camps: Applications are being accepted for the 2011 Bonnie Henrickson Basketball Camps. There are four camps: Elite (June 9-11) for girls only; individual (June 19-22) for girls in grades 5-12; and the Jayhawk Jamboree (June 23 or 25) for teams; and the Junior Jayhawk Camp (June 27-30) for girls and boys in grades 1-5. Seabury summer programs: Seabury Academy will host several athletics summer programs. They are: volleyball, May 31-June 3 for girls entering sixth through 12th grades; girls basketball (grades 5-8), 5:30-7 on Sunday and Wednesday evenings from June 5-29; girls basketball (grades 9-12), Thursday and Saturday evenings, June 4-July 2; strength and conditioning (grades 8-12), Tuesday and Thursday mornings, June 7-July 14; boys basketball (grades 5-8 and grades 9-12), Thursdays and Saturdays from June 4-July 2. Bulldog volleyball camp: Brenda Shawley and the Baldwin Junior High coaching staff will host its Bulldog Volleyball Camp for girls in grades 4-8 from June 6-9 at the Baldwin High gym. Southwest Volleyball Camp: The Southwest Volleyball Camp will run from 9-11:30 a.m., May 31-June 3 at the Southwest Middle School gym. This camp is for girls who will be in fourth through eighth grades next school year. Registration forms can be picked up in the Southwest office or online at the Southwest website. Called To Greatness League: The Called To Greatness 3-on-3 Summer Basketball League will be held Monday through Thursday each week between June 6 and June 30 at the Holcom Park Recreation Center. Each division meets twice a week for brief instruction followed by 3-on-3 games. Orchards ace: Jeannette Wahwahsuck recorded a hole-in-one on Friday — Ladies Day at the Orchards. She used a 7-iron for the ace on the 98-yard No. 6 hole. It was witnessed by Bev Benso, Marge Banks and Kassie Edwards.

LHS fall sports: The deadline for turning in required forms for participation in fall 2011 sports at Lawrence High is 3:30 p.m. Aug. 11 to the LHS Athletic Office. The first day of fall sports is Aug. 15. Forms may be picked up at Lawrence High or downloaded at

Heitzman record: Paul Heitzman, 80, Eudora, broke the Missouri state 5K record for the 80-84 age group in the Truman Run on Saturday in Indepencence, Mo. Heitzman’s time of 27:04 Surpassed the old mark of 27:54.

Clement hole in one: Ed Clement aced the 101-yard No. 9 hole at The Orchards with a pitching wedge Tuesday. Witnesses were Gary Hayworth, Don Vaughn and Lew Llewellen.

Brown ace: Andy Brown used an 8-iron to ace the 115-yard No. 2 hole Monday at The Orchards. Eric Wong witnessed it.

Sellner hole in one: Doug Sellner aced Alvamar public’s 152-yard No. 12 hole with a 6-iron April 30. Greg Dahm, Kip Goedecke and Mike Goedecke were witnesses.

Aquahawks cinic: The Lawrence Aquahawks will hold a new swimmer clinic at 5:30 p.m. on June 1 at the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center. Anyone aged 5-18 is welcome to attend the clinic. Please visit for information or contact Zach Devine 785-393-7966.
